Nothing a little polish and wax won't fix :)

A good polish and some elbow grease ought to bring back the nice midnight blue paint, don't you think?

You could take the entire roof off that sunroof 220Sb cutting along front and rear post seems.... then paste it to your blue 111 to obtain the incomparable manual Heckflosse sliding roof that is truly a work of art - all for maybe $175 in labor plus whatever it costs for front/rear windshield seals and headliner.... assuming you cannot keep the orginal headliner in tact.

Fintail, if you know where that car is.... I say go for it!!! This is one case where I'd even advocate outright thievery.... show up late on full-moon night when you've got lotsa light with pickup truck and cutting torch....... scalp the roof off the car that negligent owner doesnt give a crap about in about 20 minutes.... then cut 'n paste it on your existing perfect condition 220Sb..... heheheh.

If only my fintail was perfect...it's better than many, if not most, but it's still an unrestored 40 year old car with a quarter million miles on the clock. The body shows 40 years worth of dings and scratches, the interior isn't new, it isn't mechanically perfect. It has patina. It's also a 220SE.

That sunroof thing is tempting, but that's way too much work for me, and I have no clue how to do it. I do love the sunroof mechanisms on those cars though, the pull down/flip/push back action of the sunroof really is art. I will wait until I can find that mint W112 LWB with a sunroof. Right.

That pic came from ebay btw, some time ago.

Speaking of 112s, here's a sad case. It was without engine when I saw it, and cosmetically it is pretty far gone

There's a nice assortment of abandoned fintail pics here...warning, it is pretty sad

I did not get a pic

but there was a late 50's/early 60's 190SL parked in a field adjacent to the road that I go to work on. It was in there with a bunch of other cars. I stopped to take a look at it one day and under the hood looked pretty complete but the floorboards were gone (rusted out). I rode by there one day and all the cars in the field had been hauled off - what a shame.

I just love that 300SE lwb. I would put in a M103 in place of that monster M189 engine. Where is it, btw?

It's in NW Washington...at least it was a couple years ago when I took the pics. I don't know if it is still there, as most of the other parts cars it was parked by are now gone. I should look, it's not too far from me.

It was pretty far gone...the interior was totally demolished (although, as you can see in the pic, it did have one of those rare funky headrests), it was rusty, as you can see the back windshield was gone, which can't be good, and I wouldn't put money on the suspension surviving such neglect. It would be a very ambitious project...although for someone with endless funds and no eye to investment, it would be worthy. It deserves to be saved, if only for the expense. I'd love to have a LWB 300SE in DB334 blue to match my 220SE.
