Finnie Speedo. Removal
How do you remove the entire speedo. guage from a finnie?
I've fallen in love with the unique design and want to rescue one from the junk yard.

Why?? If you dont have a finnie for speedo cluster to fit - whats the point..... are you gonna make table lamp out of it?? And you oughta know what happens to stockpilers of parts.... They NEVER make use of the parts they've stashed. Like every component on the Heckflosse, the speedo binnacle is finest craftsmanship that MB has ever since produced...... a true WORK OF ART!!! Now quit screwin around and find yourself a complete finbody car - even like one of the Last edited by 300SDog; 01-24-2004 at 03:00 AM. |

There is a large butterfly nut in the rear. There is also an oil line to unscrew as well as an electrical connector and the spedo cable.

240DieselDog, That's not entirely true. After 30 years of stockpiling, many parts, including some that I saved for my '61 180b, are now going into my '60 220S. (Of course, I've added a bunch of 220S parts to my stockpile too. A friend suggested I wire bulbs into my 4 spare Finnie tail-lamps and make blinking Christmas decorations out of them!)) SoCalBomb, Don't forget - the capillary tube and bulb to the temperature guage have to come out of the engine, unless you're going to (Gasp!) cut it off! Why don't you rescue the whole car? Happy Motoring, Mark

240Dieseldog-
Just yesterday my friend and i have agreed to restore a car together. Since we have little experience around cars and none is restoration we decided to work on a pre-'66 VW Beetle. I relize a beetle is no MB finnie, but its a huge start given our college student budgets. Plus, restoring a beetle should be easier than any other car restoration project since parts and knowledge should be easier/cheaper to attain. If this project goes through, I'd like to work on a 4-cylinder finnie or a early BMW 2002 next. ---Thanks for the advice guys.
