Hazard warning in Ponton?

Hi there:

I have a quick question for the Ponton owners browsing this forum.

Did any of the Pontons come standard with emergency flash lights (hazard warning flashers)? Were there maybe differences between US and European versions!?

My 1959 190 (W121 - US version) appears to have no such knob or relais :-/

If they didn't come equipped with emergency flash lights does anyone have any experience in retrofitting a Ponton - while preserving originality as much as possible? I really consider them a standard safety feature...

Thanks & cheerio, Harry.

It wasn't a Federal requirement until 1966. You might want to check the wiring diagrams for a 66 - 67 230 or 230S that have hazard flashers as std equipment.

Perhaps someone can make a copy of the wiring diargram for you.

Great idea - so based on your experience the fintail and ponton wiring diagrams are reasonably similar?

Cheerio, Harry.

My girlfriend drives a '62 Buick Skylark, with no hazard lights. When an electrical glitch caused the car to stall for a few months, she "borrowed" a large orange safety cone and stuck it in the trunk for such emergencies, LOL. Good luck.

I assume you are talking about four way flashers? Euro version pontons did come with the "flash to pass" feature. Pull back on the turn signal stalk and the headlights would flash on, much like most modern cars. But they did not ever come with the four way flashers.

In the '60s and '70s there used to be four-way flasher kits availible to retrofit older cars. Might be able find one now in Hemmings or J C Whitney.

Happy Motoring, Mark
