Heh, that's the only STP I know anything about too. I think I may give this a try if other people say it works for them.
It worked on that '73 Cadillac they drove in the video....

Non-detergent straight wt oil is probably what the engine was designed for....... school of thought is that varnish/gum deposits are not a bad thing, i guess, with crappy oil seals.

Otherwise, if anybody has successfully adapted towards using synthetic oil in the 110 or 111 Heckflossen without increasing oil consumption or leaks - I'd like to hear about it.

And for cryin out loud, change the oil religiously every 3000 miles.... same time as you hit suspension fittings with grease gun.

Meanwhile every Heckflosse I've ever owned used 1 qt. @ 3 tanks of fuel or less (approx. 1000 miles)...... oil usage beyond 500 miles per qt should be cause for concern. And oil consumption lessens if you maintain oil level at 1/2 way mark on the dipstick. Its like the engine uses more oil when its topped off.

Healthy and normal oil consumption is directly related to how the car is driven..... say, high rpm 85mph speed trip to Las Vegas can easily use 1 qt @ 500-700 miles without having any sort of engine problem at all. These are typical 100k mile 220Sb engines i'm talkin about, you understand.

On the 300TDiesel wagon..... are you out of your mind?? Thats a housewife car and even the turbo version wont be as much fun to own and operate as the '63 Heckflosse 220SEb - just my opinion...... Hell, if you want fuel economy and one helluva sizzling commuter vehicle - buy a motorcycle and use the old Benz for everything else.

e plugs generally look like they have normal wear with heavy carbon build up. it just seems like they are getting to that point faster than what they should. I'm going to change them out this weekend to the m127 spec.

also i've recently notice may car will warm up but then after a few minutes on the road the temperature gauge will drop to nothing. at first i thought it was a faulty temp gauge but now i'm thinking the thermostat is stuck open. better than stuck closed but i'm also going to change that out.

and the reason for the grocery getter is, the last vehicle i bought was a 1988 Jeep Grand Wagoneer. I bought it for daily driving (32 miles to work and back) plus weekend road trips. this beast barely got 10 miles per gallon and I was spending over $100 a week in gas. i sold the bucket 3 months after i bought because i couldn't afford to drive it. it was going to cost over $500 dollars just to dive up the California Coast.
but she sure did look cool.

Have you got carbs on that thing?

If so, check for the choke staying closed. You are carbon fouling from excess fuel. If fuel injected, for sure you are running too rich from a cold engine. Get the thermostat replaced, you will increase driveability and fuel milage considerably.
