opinions on this eBay item?
I loved my Euro model 450slc and am always looking for another. I just found this http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2455783579 that the seller claims to be an '80. I always like the heater/AC controls that are pictured for this car, but thought that all went to the "automatic" controls circa '77.
Any opinions regarding this car will be appreciated.

Well, keep in mind that's a 280SLC, not a 450SLC, so if you want a 450 keep looking

In the description it says its a 6 sylinder. If its still proper euro, it will be putting out ~180hp- same as the US 450 (76-79).

Well.. now that you've told me that, I might have to bid on it. I had emailed the seller long before posting this and have not heard from him. Mine had the Euro (square) headlights and I love the small bumper as oposed to the American version. Since the interior has been redone the wood could be an add on, and I think it looks sharp. Anyway, thanks guys for your input, I'll see about gathering more info from the seller and possibly be the cars next owner.

The 110 motor drives very differently from the 117. You may want to drive this car before purchasing it.
You really gotta rev that six to make it party.

it's getting late in the bidding. price is going up. reserve not met. I have a headache. haven't heard from seller. time to pass on this one. and yes, I do like to see/touch/drive vehicles before purchasing. it is just a good looking vehicle to me, but not for me to own right now. thanks all for input.

It may have the same HP but you can be sure it's not got as much torque. It won't have nearly the pull or grunt the 4.5, even the smogged 4.5 would. But if he had a Euro 4.5, that's like an early US 4.5 and would blow away the M110 - 280FT/LBS of torque, IIRC.

Nello,
Check www.collectorcartraderonline.com. There are four or so Euro slcs avalable. I had a 280 slc when I lived in the Middle East in 1982 and it was a great car. I had it up to 240kph and it seemed like it had more in it. I brought it back to the States and sold it in 1983. The nice thing about the 280 is that you can actually work on the engine. There is room to get your hands into the engine compartment. If you don't want (and in all truth don't really need) that neck snapping 'grunt' then the 280 is a great engine. I have a Euro 350 slc with a 4 spd. manual trans and a Euro 280 slc with no engine. Both are parts cars if you need any spares. |

Thanks for the site. I signed up and searched.. found 2 that I shall inquire about. Unfortunately (for me) I also did a search for Jag Series III and found 2 of those I liked also. Oh, well, back to having 3 cars parked in front of the house? At least it looks as if someone is at home.
Thanks again guys.
