this make me sick!!
i haven't been looking around on E-bay much lately but this is what i came across friday.
i'm only 3 hrs from the car, or what's left now! it still had two days left on the auction. h**p://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2462924746 i sent the following e-mail greetings, i have a 1976 300d just like this car. i hope you don't mind me asking several questions about the body on this car. i like my 76 300d as the engine seems strong but i have several probles with it such as. to much rust!! floorboards the rocker panels are real bad. no carpeting. all the seats are in BAD shape. missing the underdash and side panels, one door panel is in bad shape. transmission slips bad when shifting. sunroof motor not opening the sun roof. headliner falling in the rear. so therefore i was wondering if you could just make a short reply to the following questions. the price so far is still great as the body looks good from the pics. there will be a lot of good parts independent of some of the questions i have below. btw i looked up a phone # for J Boman and got this # 316-***-****. if this is your number it would be as easy for me to call and ask about the condition. if that would be ok just let me know how and when to call. if you wouldn't mind perhaps i could drive up and look at this car Sat or Sun. if you have a usb compatible camera a lot of the questions i have could be answered as easy with pic. 1: is there much rust behind the front tires 2: how are the floorboards on each side. (mercededs are real bad on rusting out) 3: what shape are the floormats in (if any) 4 what condition are the seats. 5: are the windows elec or manual 6: will i need to pull the transmission and drive shaft to tow this on a two wheel dolly (towing from the front) 6a: do you think there would be many things that would fall off (engine compartment)if towed from the rear 7: would the tires hold up to be towed on a two wheel dolly 8: is there a sun roof 9: are the door panels and under dash covering intact 10: do you have a key for the doors 11: is the head liner intact 12: is there a radiator. 13: has the wiring been cut up in the engine compartment 14: do you actally have any idea as to the condition of the transmission 15: are the knobs and switches in place well i can't think of much else, as if this isn't enough, huh. my idea would be to pull my engine and sit it in this body after i get a title and save my body for spare parts. well thanks for any response you can send me. jlwggns2000 -------------------- Question from: jlwggns2000 Title of item: 1975 MERCEDES 300D PARTS CAR Seller: kmauk481 Starts: Feb-24-04 23:08:55 PST Ends: Feb-29-04 23:08:55 PST Price: Starts at $150.00 To view the item, go to: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2462924746 this was his reply: Hi, Sorry but to late as a guy picked it up today and I cancelled the auction since there were no bids. well i did call the guy that picked up the car and as of 8 pm he hadn't crushed it yet.
he did cut the rear end out to put in his station wagon he said and torched the subframe to get to it easier so that takes care of swapping bodys. now i'm wondering if i should try to go up and strip every piece that i can. this guy wasn't sure of the condition as he wasn't really concerned about the body other than getting $90 a ton for it. it's 2,800lb less the engine lets say $135 crushed. heck just a few parts off it is worh that. some of you give me a idea of what parts i shouldn't overlook if i go to strip it down. i have a good idea of obvious parts but just some things that might cost a lot latter that i might not think of.
