Hood Release just won't make it

Hi--recently you had to really pull on the hood latch inside the car (1975 116 450 SEL) to get the hood to release. Pull the lever hard all the way. Seemed the wire needed to possibly be shortened.

Now it won't quite release and I need to get under there this weekend. Any suggestions? Grab the wire with pliers and gently but firmly pull?

Thanks very much.

Motorcycle shops have cable greasers.... they look like syringes that fit over the cable end and pump lube. Its amazing what grease can do.... my hood never popped up until after greasing the springs, hinges and catches. You can also grease accelerator linkage ball-joints with axle grease for smoother pedal.

thanks--but I am worried that I may not be able to get enough pull on that cable to disengage the hood....
