I think a 108 sedan with the windshield a bit more slanted and the front a bit sleeker but with a similar grille and body style would look awesome
Wouldn't this be a 116 car?

I've never seen the ads. I have pretty much given up on MB. For the cost of a new one, I would build up my collection of pre '90s cars.

No, not at all...

116 has horizontal headlights, and a FAR less pronounced hood curve. The windshield pushed back to levels of the 116 would be a good start, but that's about where that ends

Bottom line - i think the real deal is that MB has always TOLD the buyers what they want and remained alooft of fashionable trends. This is probably why nobody here likes the newer models which appear compromised in this respect.

Ad Campaign working-but not way MBUSA wanted

Ever since the new 'vintage' ad campaign started recently by MBUSA, I've had a spike in the frequency of people coming up to me and asking: "How much for the car?"

This morning, a guy and his wife were out there in their new suv at 7 a.m. waiting for me to get up. They hit me with 'the question.' And my usual reply: "It's not for sale." He says in reply:

"Come on, everything's for sale for a price."

Whatever. Look, an inquiry like that is always an ego boost. But....

MBUSA is actually increasing the aura of the older cars, and instilling interest in them. It's not translating to the new ones. The public's too smart.

Say it loud - It's slow and I'm proud.
I like that. Only recently, I've been able to come to that place, and not let the a-holes on my tail bother me anymore. Now that I have the 300E, it helps because driving the 220S is so much more a special occasion.

Some of the 126 long versions, in the right color and the face lift look really striking on the road. I think they are coming into their own now as a classic. I also expect the new S-class with the extra body cladding will do so as well. I don't really have a problem with the looks as much as I do with the fact that the grill is plastic and the wood looks terrible inside the car. I mean c'mon, how many people have been killed as a result of the wood splintering in an accident?

The comparison on the ad is stupid though. "How many people pose with their toaster?" Give me a break.
