240DieselDog, thanks, but I already have 4 of the little beasties. One I drive daily, one I'm in the process of restoring, one super-wide flared thing that could become a V8 transplant recipient, and a parts car for all the rest. I'm unhappy enough that I can't keep the 300SE, 'cause I'd love to bring it back to life, too. Someday I'm gonna get a garage.....

If you really want to sell them, advertise them at 914club.com. There are always guys looking for good ones.

$5K you could probably fetch on eBay motors, I'd suggest tossing it up there, you might get more!

The down side to a reserve, is that the buyer doesn't know how high to take it. A marginal item has a lower chance to sell.

You can minimize that by stating exactly what the reserve it.

Spent a couple hours with the car today. Put 5 gal gas in it, hooked up a battery, and the baby fired right up! I'm impressed! I let it run for a few minutes, turned it off & replaced a leaky fuel line, and let it run for an hour or so. The back suspension went right up and stayed there, but the missing left front valve wouldn't allow the front to go up. All the gauges worked, all the lights worked, interior fan, etc worked. Other than it needing to be serviced in the worst way, and running quite rich, this baby is ready for the road (as soon as I find that pesky valve). I got NO bids at $4K on ebay, so I'm at a crossroads. Do I try & find the valve, service and tune it, or do I let it sit & occasionally try to sell it? I'm afraid of putting more money in it than I can reasonably get for it later. Can anybody advise me? Anybody got a valve they can sell me (cheap, of course :^) )? Oh yeah, 98% rust free! Some minor surface at the edges of some panels, and some rusty chrome on the front bumper. The rest of the chrome is in excellent shape. This is a gem!

Why is everyone afraid to put money in their cars? Very few things in life will return what money you put in it. Buy a new car for $30K and you won't be able to sell it for $30K. Buy a new washing machine and you won't get back what you paid.
If the air conditioning in my house broke, would I hesitate to get it fixed because I won't be able to recoup my money?

But if its worth it to you to drive that 300, then why not pay the bucks to fix it and drive it? Its a great car.

That would be excellent if you can find one for me. I'll swing by the car tomorrow afternoon & snap some pics. If it helps, the car looks to be all original, but I'm just going by the pics on the 300se.com website. Gauges are metric, so I'm pretty sure it's from Spain, as the prior owner has stated.

OK, got a couple pics. I'm showing my ignorance here, but I couldn't find the valve at all. I found 4 lines that look like they should go into it, but no valve at all. Here are 2 of the pics I took, maybe somebody can help me out.

The first photo was the master valve. There are two different masters. Yours is the later one, that means you need the later front valves (which is what I wanted to know).

You'll find the front valves by jacking up the car and looking at the back of the axle (face pointing towards the firewall). They're tucked in by the cans that house the air bags.

Now would be a good time to put the nose of jack stands and verify that you really are missing the a valve (and tell me which one).

I had a gentleman come & look at this car today. He says the pans are fine, just rust before & after the wheels. He says it's a real good candidate for putting back on the road. I guess I'll invest in that pesky valve& see what I can do.
