glad to hear that another 300se/c is going to survive a bit longer. The rockers will need to be fixed eventually. But if the car is visually OK, then you don't have to do them tomorrow. -CTH

So, cth350, what kind of price can I expect to pay for this valve, and is it available thru you? It also needs a coupler at the suspension control box on the left inner fender.

A used valve sells for 50-100$ on ebay depending how many people want it. That upper bound is too high for a used valve, but some people insist. -CTH

The saga continues

I went out to the car today, and it took about 5 minutes of finding out how to get to the ignition switch from behind, the correct jiggleing of what wires, and a small screwdriver to hold the key in the run position, but the car fired up & ran nicely. I let it run for about 45 minutes, and while I was there a couple of 20-somethings drove by, slammed (literally) on the brakes & came & parked in the driveway. They were all over the car, asking all kinds of questions, and trying to get me to take a motorhome or boat or something in trade for it. They'd seen it there for the last 2 years, and wondered if it ran. Now they know. I gave them my business card, and told them $3500.00 cash, and they went on their merry way.
The back end pumped up nicely, so I should be able to get it on a flatbed this week, and out to the wreking yard where I store my parts cars, so I can work on it a bit easier. Once I get the suspension valve, I'll see about getting it to the shop for a servicing, and get that old gas out of it. It's running rich because of 2-3 year old gas mixed with some stablizer & minimal new gas. Only time will tell what happens next. Stay tuned....

Update

I drove the SE to the house this afternoon! WooHoo! Engine drove nicely, trans has all the gears, brakes worked OK, suspension didn't drop to the ground. All in all a nice drive home. I am getting a rubbing sound from the right rear, so I think a brake pad may be sticking, and there's a clunk from the driveshaft, other than that, everything seems to work. The guy who followed me home says I started out with brake lights on both sides, but only had the drivers' side when I turned into my driveway, so I might have a bad bulb. If that's the worst of it, I can't complain. He also mentioned I was dropping a fair amout of dirt & rust from time to time. :^) Needless to say, I'm quite happy. Now I can wash it off & see how it looks under all that dirt. I'm going to leave the car in the regular setting for the suspension, to see if it leaks down overnight. All I need to do now is replace the broken drivers' side window, and replace the moulding that holds the trunk lock in place, and it'll have all it's parts again.

300se/c

If you have trouble with odd's & ends of parts - (if keeping/restoring, vs selling), I have a '63 300SE/C rustbucket parts car that might yield up something you need - haven't got time at the moment to read all the thread to see your history, just the initial and latest. The engine is a two-piper FI (two piston pump into two 3-pipe balanced-injector manifolds) and ran when last put up; pumped up but squatted overnight (LR bag leaked).
Remember seeing this bugger on eBay last year, but the left coast locale was just too far from Virginia - Enjoy!

PM or email me if you like.

I do need a trunk lock housing, if you have one. The bolts on mine are busted off.

Wow, beautiful car!

I'm probably going to be down in A.G.in the next month or so, are you still interested in selling it? Even if not, I'd love to come and look at her. I'm afraid to show it to my girlfriend, after we just poured about 4k into her 108, she'll probably veto any new additions... But, hey, it's worth a shot...

How's she driving so far?

Oh, yeah, I could also use a drivers side outside mirror. The glass is missing in mine.

She drives really nice. I can't believe how smooth the air suspension is. The auto trans worked great, power steering wound up needing a new filter, and change of fluid, but all in all, I was impressed. Once the bugs are worked out of the ignition (I've got a new switch on order), she should be a nice cruiser. I really do wish I could keep it.

You can get a replacement glass for your mirror for about $12 off the i-net. You'll probably need to get the seal/rubber ring that holds the mirror in place, too. Do that if the chrome is still good.

Thanks, Fritz. I got a new ignition switch today from Worldpac, so I hope to get down to the shop this weekend & install it. I really hope that's the problem. Then I need to get the support for the rubber ring at the middle of the driveshaft. It's missing.
