A good rule of thumb with 6.3s, is that less than $15,000, you are buying a car that will require many thousands to bring up to the condition that you would have if you just spent $15,000 in the first place.
I'm talking about things like climate control, interior wear, suspension, rubber/hoses, etc. I know too many people who have been burned on buying M-100s on eBay. Better off to find one in person and buy it. Money spent up front in the long run will be better spent than money later on. When it comes to M-100 cars there are no "deals" Cheers, Gerry |

Gerry: Definetly a car that's more than just a driver - the one that went for $4K might have needed $4k more max, including a really good paint job!

Well, just from what I could tell - $4K just for suspension. A properly operating suspension should stay up for months, if not indefinitely. The fact that it stays up "for a week" (what do you want to bet it's less than this) means it needs an overhaul. That's $4K in itself.
Then there is all -- and I mean ALL -- of the rubber on the car. Subframe mounts were done what, 30,000 miles ago. God knows how many years ago that was. Then you have all brake, fuel and coolant lines. This is several thousand for the labor to repair these. Then there is the transmission. Guaranteed to have leakdown -- they all do. Figure $3-4K for a rebuild. Oh yes, the small things. Like windshield and rear window seals, body rust, non-working antenna, broken off climate control levers (generally they're broken off). And other smaller things. This car needs to be painted too from the photos. So, $4K invested, plus I would say $20K to bring up to a cosmetically decent, mechanically excellent car. That's $24K, vs. $15-maybe $20K for a car that is already "done" so to speak. Plus a LOT less time, hassle, and anguish when the lesser amount of money is paid up front, vs. keeping "doling" out money hand over fist. A person who buys a $4K 6.3, is a very foolish person indeed. Or very, very rich. Cheers, Gerry |
