York 210 AC compressor shaft seal kit info

1973 280 4dr. My mechanic converted the York AC compressor to 134A and reported that the seal was leaking very badly (audibly), but the AC worked otherwise.

Mercedes Benz wanted 165$ for the front seal and o-ring. No other sources were found in the MB community, but this website may have the shaft seal kits. These guys apparently own the York company, and sell a complete shaft seal kit as part number 488-25274, but only to large companies! They also have .pdf documents of their instructional manual.

Kenworth, Case (now JI Case, as pn 592263c92), and International all carry the kit in their inventory, and I was able to get it (as part number VF1000) for the princely sum of 15.65 from a local Kenworth parts man.

Have you tried a local auto parts store, like NAPA or Car-Quest to ask if they had a Murray AC parts catalog. Murray used to list all kinds of AC stuff for the Yorks, including shaft seal kits, compressor clutch bearings, etc...

Hi Mark,

I saw your other post and tried two local stores (Auto Supermarket and Auto Zone) and a speciality shop. One of the places remembered the Murry catalog, but said he hadn't seen one for 10 years. I don't know about the clutch bearings, I didn't ask CCI if they were still available. I just picked up the seal kit from Kenworth-everybody had a good laugh that I was buying a mercedes benz part at a truck stop!

10-4 good buddy,

Dan

It has been over 10 years since I re-sealed a Mercedes York compressors with parts from Murray, via Westmont Autoparts - now CarQuest. Thanks for the Case & International part numbers. I might use them to fix the AC in my '72 250C or I might just convert it to a Sanden anyway.

Happy Motoring, Mark
