Burl is a 109 item. Funny how this seller knows what the piece is worth and does not list it correctly..... I guess that it sells for $334.17.....

Well, unfortunately, NEW interior wood trim is EXPENSIVE! I have been trying to replace ALL of my interior wood trim on my 108. I have been looking for months. I finally found a salvage yard that had all of the wood trim (front window trim, all 4 doors, etc.), in good shape, and paid around $200 US plus shipping for it.
Beyond the costly $$$$$ for new MB wood... there is also another problem I have had people tell me about..... even though it is new, you may have to refinish it anyway because the color might be different. I actually had a dealer tell me that. I'm like, "OK, they expect me to pay all this $$$$$ and then are going to tell me it might not even be the right color?????". He replied "Yes, so you may need to take it and have it refinished". So I'm like "So why pay this amount vs. "x" amount at a salvage for a used one and have IT refinished?" to which all he said was, "well, this one WOULD be new....." OK? SO? LOL! &^%*&%$^*%$^%$ |

"New" wood, like the tree was grown yesterday??
And doesnt MB trim for each individual car come from the same plank from the same tree?? Even on my '79 240D the zebrano wood grain across the dashboard exactly matches the grain that runs across the glove box door. My bet is the seller will eat this high class burly bit and the item will draw no bids at all. Otherwise, somebody on this forum who really needs just one piece of burly trim (knowing its probably 4 hrs labor to replace) should probably offer the seller $50 for that single piece. |

As far as the trim itself... I honestly don't know anything about the matching of the grains when the cars are built.... but according to the peeps I have talked to, the replacement parts are made in quantities of "X" amount as needed. So anotherwords, they may make 50 right hand pcs in January, then 50 left hand pcs in March, then 50 top pcs in August, and 50 dash bows in October. So therefore, none of the 4 pieces may match the next, in stain color (because of the water content of the wood etc etc), grain, etc. So if you bought all 4 pieces, you COULD end up with 4 pieces of which NONE of them match! Again now, this is what I was told by several dealers..... and since they make a living off selling the crap, I dunno why they would lie to me about it........... So take it for what it's worth... I have not experienced this first hand to say for sure, and at the prices they are charging, you can bet I never will experience it! LOL! |

Nice burlwood on the second ebay link (even nice price!)
The wood on the bow in the first link looks like standard walnut to me...I don't see any burls.

Drew at "Heritage Woodworks" in N.C. just quoted me $170 to repair and refinish mine. It has the usual water damage at each end. I felt that was really fair and the best way to go. If your dashbow is in one piece he can make it look like new. He has done work for me on another car and it was just spectacular..about two weeks turn-around time.

Drew did a complete 111 coupe interior for me in burl (same car/stuff as from that second ebay link). His cost to me was less than that final ebay price, but it cost me a few bucks to get the wood that I gave him, so it probably worked out just the same in the end.
I just can't wait to send him the dashbow from my 600. It's not gonna be cheap and wood's in terrible shape. -CTH |

Is that all it costs to redo the bows? Heck, I'd get mine does as it also has the water damage on the ends. Would love to to the dash pieces but how involved is that to take off?
