Question tire questions

Well folks,
The vehicle is a 1982 300Sd. It has upgraded 15" wheels. I have Michelin X one tires on 2 other old diesel MB rides.
The X one tires are NLA..............the car came shod with 215/60/15 yokahama Y388 tires on it..........Now they need replacing. I think that I want to continue with the 205/60 series.
The worn Y388 skins have been VERY QUIET, and good in the rain...........they were too worn for any useful feedback in the snow.
So, today I went to Town Fair Tire..........they are a somewhat large dealer here in the northeast. The following skins are what I am thinking of mounting.
Please let me hear the thoughts of our knowledgable forum members here. I will also check the Tire Rack site....I think that they have some sort of a comparison chart.

Yokahama H4 Avid at $89 mounted w/out balance
Yokahama AS430 foir the same price
Yokahama Y388 at $79 mounted w/out balance
Michelin XGTH4 at $115 mounted w/out balance
Toyo TPT at $109 mounted w/out balance

The salesman told me that the Y388 are of an older tread pattern, and not as good. (these are currently on the DIESEL)
The AS430 was the newest of the yokahama tires, and I was told to go for these instead of the XGTH4 michelins for "more bang for the buck".
The H4 avid were said to be almost as good as the AS430, however they were an older pattern and would eventually be phased out.
The Toyo TPT was said to be a very good all season tire......quiet, and very long lived.
Well folks, let the discussion begin!
Thanks much.

Thanks Luke,
Today I stopped into National and Battery to see what they had.
The salesman was pro the avid H4s, however, he did have one of the AS430 yokahama tires on display, NO info tho..............Seems that these are a BRAND NEW item.
When I checked the Tire Rack site last nite, they were NOT even listed.
I seem to like the AS430....it being AA A and a treadware rating of 440.
Is there any chance of you checking any other info on these newer Yokahama skins?
As you can see, not too many responses to my post. Thank you for your recomendations.

Yok AS 430

Spo 123

What price did they quote for the AS 430. Is this an H or V rated tire? Directional yes, no? You said the salesman said this was a brand new tire, just out? Thanks

Talking Made A Decision

Well folks,
This past weekend, I spent some money at National Tire and Battery. It turns out that they heavily advertise Exide batteries now. I asked if they were still owned by Sears, and was told...no longer...surprise.....I guess that the Sears purchase lasted around 5 or 6 years.
I went with the Yokohama Avid H4S in size 215/60/15 on the 1982 300Sd. Very quiet tire....also seems that the snow portion specs will be good this winter.
The Yokohama AS430 was much of a mystery. No answers anywhere! I contacted the Yokohama public relations phone # in California...the man on the other end of the phone was VERY HELPFUL ...However, he could not or would not give out any prices.
As it turns out, the "NEW" AS 430 tire is "based" on the Avid H4S tire. These are BOTH unidirectional tires with an AA and A rating. I personally prefered the look of the tread pattern of the AS 430......However, I was informrd that the AS 430 is a SPECIAL tire ONLY availible to SELECT YOKAHAMA DEALERS...ie; here in the northeast, being NTW and Town Fair Tire.
As a result, I chose the "standard" Yokohama H4S. This was in case of needing a replacement somewhere down the line where the AS 430 MAY not be availible locally.
Luke, thank you for your information previously.
Keithed, you would be happy with EITHER of the aforementioned Yokohama tires.
I hope that this helps any other members considering the Yokohama Avid H4S and or the AS430 tires.
