Powder coating wheels

Fiirst just wanted to say I love this forum, everyone is extremely helpful. Gotta be the best MB forum anywhere.

Anyway, just wondering if anyone has had experience using powder coating as a way to refinish factory wheels. My 99 SL500 stock wheels are chipped on the outer edge (looks like at sometime in the past a tire shop mounted tires and scraped a good bit of paint off the outer lip of each wheel....)

My usual wheel resto technique is to bead blast the wheel to bare metal, prime & repaint, but the paint that seems to match the factory silver the closest (Wurth), is a lacquer, which can be brittle. What I was wondering is if anyone as restored wheels by powder coating - seems like that would also resist brake dust etching a bit better. Not sure if a decent color match is possible though. Anyone had any experience? Thanks much.

I had the alloys on an '83 300TD powder coated for $150/set of 4. They look good and come clean with soappy water and a big old paint brush. Color is very close to original. I've had tires mounted twice with no chipped paint. I expect this finish to last my lifetime. $$s well spent!!

Thanks, it seems like a logical way to go, especially if the color can be matched well. Thanks
