Well, I went to another Mercedes dealer and they say they never mix Sports with Sport A/S. Then I called MBUSA abnd their tech guy said the Mich Pilot Sport A/S is not an approved tire for a CLK430, so back to the dealer I go to throw a ****fit.

Have a look for yourself & see how much they look alike.

Just saw this, no it was not you Luke, you sold me the original Pilot Sports. I forget who it was, but they certainly and clearly said that I would get 99% of the same ride with the A/S when compared to the Pilot Sports. Like I said, he made his sale.

Old thread deserving a bump

I installed Pilot Sport A/S 1 year and 30k miles ago, and I have to say I will probably get 40k out of them. Like Manny, I am religious about tire pressure, and coupled with the free rotate-and-balance I get from Discount Tire, they've survived. Probably helps that they are on a C 230 with 4-cylinder torque, which has spared them some wear no doubt.

I have loved these tires. Best I've ever owned. MB service rep was surprised, as he had heard bad things as some of you have. Tire is a 7-year old design, but it's perfect for my car. They are, however, starting to get a tad bit louder, and walk over the road a bit. I had planned to do Pilot Exalto A/S last time, but DC gave me a deal on these as they were in stock.

Coming from a very good experience with the Pilot Sport A/Ss, do you think I would be disappointed in the Exaltos? Since I've gotten 30k and counting from the Sports, perhaps I would be well-advised to go with the PS2s if they are that much of an improvement in quiet and performance?

Oh well, no replies needed. I'm gonna stick with these tires next time. I just got probably my 8th free rotate and balance at Discount Tire (they also fixed a 10lb-a-week bead leak for free). We talked about Pilot Exalto AS, Pilot Sport PS2, and my tire guy thinks I would be really disappointed with the Exaltos coming out of PS AS's. Based on what he has seen, they will go 55k but they will get noisy well before that. For the PS2s, he says on my application to expect maybe 15k, half of what I have on my PS AS's, and also they are not as good in the wet as I may think, based on customer comments.

We also talked about complaints we have both heard about these tires on Mercedes cars. He says the AMGs (not surprisingly) will burn through the rears VERY quickly. I guess with my low-powered m111, and probably for the m104/112 cars, these would be a great choice, since there isn't an overabundance of tire-chewing to be had. For a decade-old car, I think this tire, Pilot Sport A/S, with ca. 2001 technology is a great choice. One would think as this tire ages and falls to the back of the line, the price would come down.......
