Winter tires on CLK500

Getting some interesting advice on this from my MB dealer and an independent. Both agree. The standard setup on the CLK500 is 225-45 tires on 17x7.5" rims at the front and 245-40 on 17x8.5" wheels at the back. The suggestion is to run all four as per the front wheel specification for winter tires. The reasoning includes the suggestion that chains cannot be fitted to the 40-section tires. I have not needed to use chains in the last 10 years, even in the alps, so this is not a big factor.

Any views or experience with this?

Momo

I'd get four matching size wheels & snow tires if possible, so you can rotate them for even wear. No need for fatter rear tires in snow...!
