Sheep in wolf's clothing
I bought a G reg 260E from my brother in law three years ago. It had a factory sportline suspension, bodykit and AMG spoiler on the back, together with Lorinser alloys 5 spoke. I'm very happy with the car, it's not very fast but it looks quite aggresive still on the road.
My question is whether Mercedes themselves were selling AMG mercs at that time, or whether the wheels and spoiler were aftersale. The paint on the spoiler is now flaking and looking a bit dated, I'm wondering whether to remove it completely and respray the boot. Also the alloys are looking tired (blooming) and need replacing. What would the orginal wheel options have been on this car ? |

At the time of your 260E, AMG was an aftermarket tuner. A customer or dealer could have the car sent, after it came off the Mercedes production line, to their shop in Affalterbach. There were various stages of tuning and different pieces were available ala' carte. AMG also had authorized outlets in the US, Canada, Japan, and other countries that could have done the work.

Thanks for your response. Maybe I should clarify, the car hasn't been tuned by AMG, it's just got the spoiler, bodykit and wheels. I want to put the original mercedes alloys back on and was wondering what the official wheel options were in 1990.
