I had a set sent once via FedEx ground still mounted on steel wheels-be sure to let the air out-and they arrived fine, I would have them boxed if tire only. Good luck, Mark

I've bought tires twice by mail order and had no problem. If just the tire, all they do is stick a mailing label right on the tire. No box necessary - what is there to hurt on a tire?

Fed Ex Ground is the way to go. Sold a four tires on Ebay . Just banded them together with some heavy duty zip ties and away they went. Very cost effective too.

97dieseldriver, how much did fed-ex for the 4 tires cost you? i used the rate calculator on their website and it looks like it would be around $6 each from MA to VA.
but i was typing in guesstimates for dimensions and weights.

Ive done business with the Tire rack several times......the shipping is fair considering their prices are great to begin with and in the end you still save over local prices......
Now if Joe average shipped them it would be far more pricey....

Count me as another fan of FedEx Ground. They have consistently impressed me with both pricing and speed of delivery, and they've been easy folks with which to work. I started out by putting on an address label and filling out a paper form each time I shipped - no terrible hassle.
If you plan on using them even occasionally, it's easy to set up an account with them, too. I never bother filling in forms by hand now. I just use their web-browser-based system, print the shipping document from my computer, attach it using their plastic pouch, and drop the box off at the counter ready to roll. If you've never worked with them, don't draw any conclusions until you've actually run the numbers for the packages in question. They might surprise you, especially on largish stuff. I've been informed that rates are going up, though, so it might be a good idea to compare against other shipping options.

Last time I shipped tires by Fed Ex Ground , it was two huge 335Z18's from Orlando to Flint. I think the total was $21.00.
