17's on w124 luke please respond

i'm looking to finally upgrade wheels.

i am considering either the evo, monoblock II [c36, c43 style] or may be the mille maglia's.

whatever i get may be put on a w210 wagon sometime.

i'm kind of leaning toward the evo's, but don't know if they'd look ok on a w210.
my car is white.

i do not want any rubbing problems.

also what size tires should i have?

is it possible to have a 50 series instead of a 45?

where can i get the monoblock's without taking out a home equity line of credit?

thanks

Well, you did ask for Luke to respond.

I don't know whether the w124 and w210 can use the same wheels.
w124: 5 X 112 mm lug, can probably fit up to 17x8 pretty easily.

My w201 (which came w/ the same stock wheel/tire setup as the w124 of the same year) has 17x7.5", ET (backspacing) is 35mm, tires are 215/45-17. That setup should fit w/o rubbing on your car, but I don't guarantee that b/c I haven't tried my wheels on a w124.

If you want genuine AMG mono's, they'll be BIG $$$$. There are almost always some non-AMG's, same design and sturdy but probably a little heavier, on eBay for about $600 shipped. That's how I got mine.

thanks for your response.

those look pretty sweet on your ride, your mb looks pretty sweet too.

that's a monoblock II style right?

is the face pretty flat?

believe it or not the stealer quoted me 265.00 each for the amg's monoblock II's 17x7.5.

i think i'm going to go with those.

thanks

Thanks. Yes, that's the Monobloc-II style wheel. The faces aren't flat, but I don't care for the flat ones either.

I think the Evo looks funny on a W210 - they do fit though with 235/45/17s instead *I think*

I have 17x7.5 ET37 Evo's with 215/45/17 Michelin P-Sports. The ride is pretty stiff now but it's not bad I guess. I wanna try softer tires next time.

I wish 205/50/17s would fit (same overall diameter as the stock 195/65/15s) - but I guess they're not meant for 7.5" wide wheels.

Peter,

One car to look at is the 1997 E420 Sport.

It came from the factory with 17" AMG Monoblock wheels. I don't know if they are version I or version II.

You can look for this AMG wheel and see if they'll fit on your W124.

I found a 1997 E420 sport on an old ebay auction. Click this link to see what the car looks like:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4520837031&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT

If it doesn't work, try searching for auction number 4520837031.

I wonder if those 17" Monoblocks on the W210 E420 Sport are ET35. They probably are...

AMG did make 17" Monoblocks specifically for 124s with 124 xxx xx xx part numbers.

ET42 17x7.5" - Those are the ones that you definitely want. That way you can use 225/45/17 tires and not roll the fenders.

update

thanks for the feedback fellows.

i went to the stealer today to pick up the 1st wheel [trying to keep this from the mrs., i have to rebuild drivers seat first].

to my slight disapointment the wheel was/is an evo II. dealer made a mistake.

i'm fine with the evo's.
if they're good enough for narva h4 100/90 watt burning holson, they're good enough for me.

they are the 17 x 7.5 et37.

holson which pilot sports do you have?

when you say ride is stiff, what do you mean?

have you changed sway bars or lowered your car?

are you wheels "static" balanced with the stick on weights on the inside of wheel?

thanks

I have the 1st Gen P-Sports. 215/45/ZR17 (87Y) - the load rating just seems so ... low for a car that weighs nearly 1800kg!

i can feel more of the road's smaller irregularities. However, over bigger bumps it doesn't seem much worse than the 60-profile MXV4+. There is also some issue with tire noise but that's just because the w124 is a pretty quiet car otherwise!

the steering also seems to follow the road crown a little bit more.

on a positive note, t feels much more sure-footed at high speeds and obviously the 17s look much better.

if I could buy tires for them again, I'd try the Goodyear F1 (XL-rated) or the softer Yokohama Avid H4S - however, I'm not complaining.

BTW, thanks for the bulbs. They are in one word, amazing! The light output and beam pattern are excellent!

Maybe the load rating of your tire is incorrect. Each car calls for a specific load rating in the tire.

My car, a 124.032, calls for a 195/65 R15, 91H, where 91H is the load rating.

Thus, if you look at tire sizes at The Tire Rack, you'll notice that all tires, like my Michelin MXV4 Plus, come in different load ratings at each tires size.

You can buy 195/65's in 87H, 89H, 91H, 93H, and so on.

e530 sport rims on 1991 300ce

All i can tell you boys is that i am running 245/45/17's on a set of rims from an e430 sport and they work without a problem. No rubbing. They fill out the wheel wells completely and give a good ride. I am running yokohoma tires. Very clean and very stout looking I will get some pics up of the car with the tires on it.

here's a pic of one of the wheels.

i bought some michelin pilot sport h4 xgt's, 215/50/17

the tire man i deal with said they were NO problems mounting a 50 series on a 7.5" rim.

is this correct?

i'm getting a 30 day test drive on the tires, i can change my mind if i need to.

Cool, definitely let me know how they are. It'd be nice to run fatter/quieter tires.

Nice wheels
