rim style change

my '82 300d has the bundt rims, but i'd really like to change them to the matching paint color capped 240 rims, just think they have a more classic aura to them, even if they are hubcaps. are these rims the same size, and will they make the car perform any differently? any other difficulties that i don't see? thanks for the input. if i do end up changing them, i promise to put the bundts up for sale here .

They weren't just for 240's. They are also a 14" rim, and being steel are slightly heavier than the bundts. I just changed out the bundts on my wagon to the steel wheels and hubcaps. First, my bundts were completely void of any and all paint, so of course anything else will look better. But had they had perfect paint I still 100% prefer the steel wheels and hubcaps.
I noticed no difference at all in drivability, as there isn't enough weight difference to make any feel difference.
It is really bizarre how that one little change makes the car look totally different.

I think they came in an aluminum version also. My old 240D had them, they looked different from the steel ones, had round holes instead of slits but still had the hubcaps...

I'm planning on putting the steel rims and hubcaps on my 85 300D too. I think they look more classic that way. My budnt wheels look awful though. When I get them off I will get them bead blasted, repainted and several coats of clear on them, then I shall see if I like them. The biggest thing is the perpetual coating of brake linings I can't seem to keep off for more than a few days. If they turn out good though I will have summer and winter wheels.

I can't tell you how pleased I have been with ceramic brake pads!!!!!! No dust at all, and they work great! I put them on all my jalopys.

Yes, they came in aluminum also, my '82 240 had them. The handling etc will be the same if they are aluminum. Probably won't notice any difference if they are steel.

The hubcaps are the same for the steel and aluminum wheels. But the steel wheels are used with wheel covers and the aluminum wheels are not.

The thing about ceramics is that even though they don't dust they kill rotors since they are so hard. But the brake dust on rims get pretty annoying.

Remember the wheel bolts for the steel and aluminum wheels are different lengths.
