Hey, Im wondering if anyone knows if I can go from 16" wheels to 20" wheels on my 83 SEC, also, if I can put 20" on the rear and 18" or 16" on the front?

thanks for any answers

Do that and you are going to be mistaken for a pimp by every streetwalker in town.

I have yet to see 20's on a W126. It might look good if you choose the right looking rim, and the car is really clean. The wheel wells look so tiny on the W126, I don't know if you can fit them.

Can you go to a rim shop and get a test fit?

If you do it, take pics, but be warned: You might get some clowning for it.

Is that a bad thing???

Well, its just that my taste in rims is very limited, and I happen to be looking at a pair or 20" chrome AMR? rims and they are selling for a mere $69;, but my bigger question is having TWO DIFFERENT SIZES, FRONT AND BACK, I came from the muscle car era and prefer the raised up rear end (not too ridiculous) look, and I would probably put some lower profile tires on the back.

Get clowned?? hahahha, not a problem, unless its my wife or kids

A staggered set up would be nice. Maybe you can get a shop to test fit a set of 20's??

If a shop see thats you are interested purchasing wheels, they will accomodate you.

Wait till you hit a pothole with the 40 series tires you will have to run adn bend the rim becasue there is effectively no sidewall to absorb the impact.

not to mention the greatly increaced rotational mass adn unsprung weight of the larger rims

Hey BH,,, nice pic, but I think I see some liberal commie on the other side of your car taking the wheels off!!

Ok, decided not to go with the 20" rims, I think its just toooo big, would prefer 18" back and 16" front.

Wow, the Pentas look great on the 123.

Also, I wouldn't go bigger than 18" for the w126. You can also lower it a bit.

I havent done anything on my SEC yet, my house has me swamped.

Thanks for all the input from everyone. Im taking the ronals off right now and selling them to matt, gonna keep my eyes peeled for JUST THE RIGHT RIMS however.

BH, thanks for that tip about the potholes, I never thought of that.

I also found in the trunk some really nice matts, dark blue, they have 380SE on them. Wondering if anyone in the LA area or Bakersfield area is interested in them for a cheap price, and/or if anyone knows their new and used value.

thanks, ronK

Well not sure how the roads are in LA but potholes are definately something to consider in the snow belt. a LOT of ultra low profile tire/rim combos get killed just becasue there is nothing to absorb the impact and the edge of the hole on the far end will do in the rim in an instant...and big rims are not cheap.
