Is there a thumbrule for section width and wheel width ?
Hey guys,
I got a 1982 240D w/ some bundtcakes from the junkyard (I also have the stock steelies, but I like the bundts better...). It needs new tires. I'm pretty sure they are from a W123 300d so they are 14" dia and 5.5 or 6.0" width- all this is well and good. Right now there are 205/60's (?) on there, and I want to go smaller 185? 195?, is there a thumbrule or website or conversion chart that says "with X width wheel you can fit as large as a Y or as small as a Z section width tire ? it seems that this is only tribal knowledge on the part of the "parts counter guy" (or internet guy...) and I was wondering if there was a convention. TIA -John
