I just got a quote on shock's from parts shop. The bilstiens I a familiar with. The other brand I'm not, they are Boge. What kind of quality are they? I would like some opinion's on the brand best for my 83 300D Turbo. I'm about to do front suspension repair's and plan to replace shock's at all four corner's. I'm not looking for race track handling just a good tight ride.

Can't go wrong with Bilsteins or Koni. Boge are original fitment on many imports. I run Bilsteins on my Benz and Koni Sports on my Porsche 944 Turbo. Good luck!

Bilstein, Comfort
Shoe, Comfort is the OEM for our Benzes. Just last week I replaced all shocks on my W124030('87 300E). I ordered from IMPCO at 1-800-243-1220 or http://www.************************, they had the best price. If your earlier model has a Steering Stabilizer, by all means replace it too. It will be the best $300.00 you will ever spend. Happy Trails Beep Beep from Houston.

Over the last 20 years, I have tried at one time or another, virtually every brand of allegedly "good" shock available out there, including Sachs, Boge, Tokiko, Koni, Spax, and Bilstein. NONE are better in terms of ride and handling performance and body control than Bilstein- NONE- PERIOD.
The Boge/Sachs shocks came as standard equipment on my '99 E300 Turbodiesel- while they were "ok", I just changed to Bilsteins, and am amazed by the difference overall. The car was softer, wallowed more and tended to "pogo" over road dips and corners, but no more with the Bilsteins installed! Bilsteins USED to come as standard equipment on MBZ, as was the case with my old 123 body car. (some MBZ cars such as the AMG variants still do come with Bilsteins) And the Bilstein warranty is as good as it gets- guaranteed for life. The company does honor that warranty as I have replaced a few shocks over the years that developed oil leaks well past 100,000 miles- and no questions asked! |

Billies All The Way
I haven't had the experience with shocks as my fellow members have, but shocks are an item that fails gradually. My '87 300E shocks are a prime example. Over the 169,000 miles, a little at a time they went kurplunk. I thought everything was fine. Bang, I decided to replace them, Bilstein Comfort, not F-1 shocks just OEM., because they needed replacing because of the age and miles. Now understand, I am a twenty year plus retired automotive engineer for G.M., Cadillac Motor Car Division and I should know better. But, this is a Benz! The four shocks and the steering damper are new. What a joy it is to drive a Mercedes Benz again. Happy Trails Beep Beep from ole dummie Houston.
