After looking at all the OEM, and aftermarket wheels out there, I decided to go with OEM wheels. I chose 2006 S350 wheels, these have a great look on this body style. The car rides smooth and heads turn when you are stopped or going slow. You can acheive the same look with CL500 wheels (2000-2002), as these are the same size and style. The only thing I recommend is to change the lug bolts. The stock ones stick out past the wheel about 1/2" and they are not that great looking anyway. I found a chrome set on EBAY for $35. You will need the following size for the wheel swap... BALL SEAT... 14mm x 1.50 threads, 45mm (1.77 inches) shank, 66mm (2.60 inches) overall length. These lug bolts recess into the bolt hole about 1/2" and the chrome looks great with the chrome tri-star wheel cap. All OEM wheels are stamped with the size and offset , inside the wheel. These are.. 7 1/2J x 17h2... ET45 (45mm offset). The original S class wheels from 92-99 are ET51 (51 mm offset) the difference being only a 1/4". They fit and work perfectly. The new 2006 S350 weighs 3980lbs. and my 1996 S Class weighs 4479lbs, a difference of only 408lbs. Make sure when you are doing any wheel change to CLEAN your concentric hub (in the center of the rotor) with a wire brush before putting on any wheel, the smallest amout of build-up or rust, dirt, etc will cause the wheel to not sit flush and will cause wobble and balance problems. Hope you enjoy the picture, if you have any questions, just ask!
