staggering 205/50 and 205/55/16 tires

PO of my 87 300e had low profile 205/50/16 tires on 16 inch amg wheels. Two of the tires are shot; and I wanted to improve the ride by replacing them with a pair of 205/55/16 tires. Any problems doing this? Should the 205/55s be mounted on the front or rear? thanks.

The 205/55/16's will be turning 3.1 % slower than the 50's.
You MAY be approaching the limit of what your vehicle computer will accept.
If you do it, I would install the larger one at the rear.

Maybe your 1987 is too " simple ".
On newer vehicles ( with electronic traction control, etc. ) the computer has a limit of acceptance, as far as wheelspeed difference goes.
I believe that threshold is about 4%, after which it can activate a warning light, suggesting a problem.

Yeah, the 87 300e is very basic on self-diagnostics. Thanks.

Your cruise control may not work.

When I first purchased my car, I made the mistake of using only two slightly smaller snow tires on the rear of my car. It was all they had in stock and I was in a rush, since there was already snow on the ground. My cruise control stopped working. To make a long story short, I will just say that it all turned out to be caused by the tires. You should use matching diameter tires at all four wheels.

You feel you love them too much, or you are just too stupid to know any better.
