wheel fitment question
Hi,
I've got an '85 300TD w123 with stock 14'' bundts. I've been looking for a spare set of bundts for winter, and located a set of non-bundts from a '93 300E. The tires on these wheels are 195/65R 15. the stampings on the back say 124 401 1802 and 6 1/2 J x 15 H2. Fit? would I then replace the tires on those wheels with the same 195/65R 15s or another size for dedicated snow tires? Thanks in advance! Kevin

Look for the ET number, which indicates offset.
Your stock Bundt rims are probably ET30, and you can go down as far as ET17, like the AMG rims, but nothing much higher than 30 works on a W123 unless it's 16" or larger. I suspect that W124 rims have much more offset, which would cause them to interfere with the suspension. If you like the look of those and want 15", look for some late '80s W126 which come in the same basic style, but with ET23, ET22.5, or ET25 offset.

The rims you listed will not fit your car. The will not even bolt on as it will hit at the tie rod area. You should be able to find stock rims in your area without much trouble. If you can't drop me a e-mail I have some extras in my garage.

What sort of offset could I get away with on 16'' wheels? I found this set:
6 1/2 J x 15 H2 ET44 from a 97 420E. Tirerack sells these wheels as a replacement for both my car and the 420E, both with 215/55/R16s mounted... I greatly appreciate everyone's responses! Kevin
