looks nice. course, they did come with fifteens in later 126s.

again the weight matters on ride and compliance to bumpy surfaces.

on a perfectly smooth skid pad like situation the very wide heavy combinations may work fine.

myself, i dont drive that much on skid pads.

lots of rain though and bumps too.

16x8's

Finally got the 16x8" wheels I had sitting in my shop since I sold my W126 onto my TD. Amazing roadholding qualities, but acceleration and ride quality have definitely suffered. The car looks much sportier with the 215's under it though. Especially from the back. Meaty! And talk about filling the wheelwells (215 60 HR16 tires)....

The wheels are from a '91 SL. Sorry, I don't remember the offset measurement. I had to use 15mm H+R hub-centric spacers and 55mm lug bolts (well, 60mm bolts, with 5mm hacked off) on the back.

On the front, I took the steering knuckles from a parts car and had them machined down to 17mm in thickness. I got longer bolts, unbolted the steering knuckle from the hub ass'y, shortened up the tie rods, put the spacers I had made in between the steering knuckle and the hub, used my longer bolts to put everything back together (with plenty of loctite), then got it lined up. Steers perfectly. The RF wheel needs to be spun, but otherwise no vibrations/wobbles whatsoever.

If anyone wants pix, just pm with your email. I can't shrink photos enough to post here.

Jay.

that whole spacer setup and grinding steering parts sounds dangerous to me.

I see from this, that 500 SE wheels will not fit.

I just ordered 500 SE wheels 15's and have not gotten them yet, but what problmes will I encounter? they are stock from an 85 500SE.
and I have a 300SD '82 I thought sticking with wheels from another 126 would be smart, NO?

Since the W126's suspension design did not change over its run any wheel that fits on one will fit on all of them. It doesn't matter what model.

R129's wheels don't fit without mods, stay away. Just buy the right 16in wheels.

Dangerous?

Nothing dangerous about it, Tom, if it is done properly. Everything is in there, snug as a bug, and I had the "grinding" done at one of the best machine shops in town. Drove the car out to the coast and back yesterday. Man, that thing is glued to the road!

This is the same car I removed the SLS from. That did a lot to help eliminate body roll during hard cornering. Now I just want to get some shorter spring seats for the front end. And get the intercooler hooked up, and put in the manual tranny, and....

Jay.
