I have an '85 Euro 190 E 2.3-16. I put 2,000 miles a month on the car and once a month I use the car in an MBCA autocross and a couple times a year I run it at Summit Point. What wheels and tires can you recommend that I use for autocross and Summit Point? My street wheels are a British made Hockingham R look-a-like with Dunlop SP8000.

What size wheels. Usually I have heard good things about Yokohama A032R in 225/50/15 for 15" wheels.

Thanks for your advice.
I have 15" wheels and the SP 8000s are 205/55/ZR15. I plan on keeping these for street use and am looking for a new set of wheels and tires to use just for driving events. So, I'm looking for advice on good used wheels ... what size? And recommendations on tire brand and size. Robby |

Robby,
I haven't done any racing with my 16V but if it were me, I'd use the stock wheels for the track. They are strong and reasonably light. The SP8000 is a fine tire or you could use a Michelin Pilot or Bridgestone S-02. Maybe go with a 225/50 if you need more rubber on the ground; I think the stock 7" wheel is wide enough for this. For the street you can use 16" or 17" wheels with lower profile tires. I just upgraded from 16" to 17" wheels on my car...17 x 7.5 Moda R1 with 215/40 Bridgestone Potenza S-02 Pole Positions. Good luck, |

If you plan on having a "dedicated" set of wheels/tire for track (driving events), definately get a DOT competition tire.
Using a real comp tire on the track is a whole other planet when compared to regualar street tires. With a true comp tire, your car will brake & handle soooooo much better. Hosssier currently makes the best/fastest track tire, but the life is not very lonh (usually about 7-8 heat cycles) Toyo RA-1s(my choice) are nearly as fast but last much longer. |

I agree with Alian. For Track, use track tires or DOT Approved tires. I recommended the A032r just because its barely street legal, and the wear is probably the best out of all the DOT competitions tires. Beside
