I have an '89 300E (W124) that is relatively stock in all aspects. The tires are Michelin Energy MXV4 in size 205/60 R 15. There is an additional notation of 91H. Sidewall tells me that the maximum inflation pressure is 44 psi.

I had noticed some wear along the outside edges so I inquired about a 4-wheel alignment at a tire / alignment shop I've traded with for years. They said that they could do the job for $89. At the same time a guy at the shop told me that I should run these at 40-41 psi on my car. I'd been running them at 30 psi, now I'm running them at 40 psi. WHAT IS THE CORRECT INFLATION PRESSURE FOR THESE TIRES ON MY CAR?!?!? I drive mostly a combination of in-town and highway miles but mostly short distances. One person in the car, not carrying any additional load.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I run most all my vehicles at 32 psi.. I have had good luck and long tire life. Look on the tag inside door jam for recomendation. It s probably about 32 also.. Note:you have to check pressure during colder weather as this drops with lower temps.

Actually, on an '89 300E the MBZ-recommended inflation pressures are listed on the inside of the fuel filler door. I run pretty close to these pressures, although I usually go up 2-3 lbs in the front as I drive a bit harder and prefer the crisper turn-in and decreased tire squeal.

The list on the fuel filler door is pretty accurate. Though for comfort and convinience, the 205/60/15 Michellin Energy I currently have are inflated all round at 32psi, rarely above 34psi. I think 40psi is excessive as it promotes hard driving and accelerated wear.

I had good luck running two sets of Michelin MXV4's on my 1987 300e at 40 p.s.i. Firm ride, good handling, good wear. This above the recommended pressure, but I liked it.

Way to go, Scott. While we may have our views on how we like to be inflatted (no puns intended), you're the master when it comes to your MB.

I took my mom's Honda Accord out since she's in Melbourne. The tyres were down to 20psi (for not having been driven in a month). Lifted them up to 34 psi in front, and 32 rear.

One things for sure, the Accord (manual) does not consume as much fuel as the 300SE. Very economical though it doesnt feel as rock solid as the MBZ.
