toyo tires

any one use them? i know they are a high end brand but i have never used them. i currently have pirellis on my car and am happy with them. unfortunaly they are getting a little low on tread. i can get toyo proxys for about $60 with my discount. so has anyone used them? are you happy with them?

They are very good long lasting tires but make sure to change all fours, don't mix and match.

Have you checked The Tire Rack?

I have been very pleased with the tires, reviews, information, service and delivery of The Tire Rack (14 years for me). They have numerous "name brand" tires for your exact vehicle at and below your price point. Several of these have complete reviews of them. They also have recommended suppliers in your local area that won't scratch the wheels. They can drop ship them to you or the shop.

Could also check some back issues of Consumer Reports.

Oh a link would be proper manners,

well once you add having a shop install them it becomes more money. i can mount them at work without scratching them and balance them.

You do not have to pay for the mounting as part of the price. If you can do it yourself, excellent. Went there to see if they had reviews and specifications that were not subjective. They do not carry the brand you noted.

Here's another outfit that handles the brand with customer reviews, may provide more information to validate your decision.

I would be embarrassed to buy at Tire Rack. Can you imagine carting four tires to a local indie shop -- which makes its money on selling tires -- and asking them to install mail-order meats for a few bucks each? Not me.

I'll keep my business local. For big box service, Costco offers decent rates.

you also have to figure that most local places will provide free rotations and balance for as long as you have the tires

I have toyos on my 85 300 SD. I am not pleased with them at all. They make my car handle like a bowl of jello. The previous owner put them on to hide the ball joints need to be replaced just before he sold it to me. He made sure to point out that the tires were high end toyos too.

On my old 79 SD I had Coopers. They handled great. As soon as I destroy the toyos and replace the ball joints, I'm going to get another set of Coopers

Toyo makes a decent tire. I prefer Yoko's and Bridgestone's though.

The Yoko AVS 100's look cool. I would recomend Mich PS2's as well but since their disapointment at F1 last year I will no longer purchase or recomend their tires to anyone.

You ever stop to think it's the worn out balljoints making your car handle like jello and not the Toyos? Duh.
And as far as Cooper tires being better than Toyos I don't believe that for a second. The smart man would get his balljoints replaced before he started blaming the tires.

I had a similar experience with the Yokahomas on my 79 even after I replaced the ball joints which were worse than the ones on my 85. Its not the ball joints. Worn ball joints won't cause a car to roll side to side when cornering. Bad shocks might, but then the car would dive forward in braking and heel back on acceleration, my car doesn't. The sidewalls on the toyos suck.

I'm not the only one with this opinion either. A coworker decided to try them on his Jetta. He was very displeased how his car handled in comparison to his old tires (Michelins). He didn't like they way rolled in the corners and made the steering unresponsive.

They might be marginal on a paper weight rice box, but not on a Mercedes thats built like a tank.
