I just got my car back from getting the front suspension rebuilt, and my independent MBZ specialty shop somehow damaged my right rear generic brand S speed rated tire. They replaced it free of charge with a Toyo Proxes H4, in 205/65R15. This brand of tire is unfamiliar to me, and the one local dealer I found can get them for about $25 apiece less than the Michelin MXV4+. I need front tires anyway, so I'm looking for anyone with experience with this type of tire. If they are comparable, I figure my shop's mistake (?) may save me some $$$. Here is the URL for these tires. http://www.toyo.com/tires/tire_lines/high_perf/h4.html

hi robert...
from what i heard..toyo proxes are very good tires and it'll save you some money... they just havent had a strong marketing push as other companie and seem to be relying more on direct sales/word of mouth advertising. i am currently looking for tires and i am considering Toyos since i believe the performance is pretty much the same and it'll save me a few hundred $$$. take care whan |

I heard the very same! I have a friend that is in the tire business and he swears that by TOYO! I had a set on order, but he could not get them in time for me and I bought the Yokohama AVS Sports instead. I was excited for the TOYO's but could not wait! I am perfectly satisfied with the Yokohamas as well......
I think you would do well with either...and save money at the same time! Michelin is crazy for what they want for tires! They only last about 18k miles on my C43 anyway...heheheheh |

I recently took my Toyo off my car (they are dedicated snow tires and here in Maryland we don't need them). I was actually rather pleased with them while I had them on. I was told that they were dedicated snow tires and I do not want to waste them on perfectly dry pavement. Anyway, I was told that Toyo had been chosen by Porsche as OEM. They are rather expensive tires to begin with, and with the Porsche's announcement the prices will probably go up further. Hope this helps.

Toyo makes a great tire...that H4 will do as good a job as any 4 season tire, and will absolutely go 75k if you rotate & watch the inflation (member Vic Vicious did it in that very same size, and is on his 2nd set). I've run them on non-Mercedes cars and they were great...I run Toyo Observe winter tires on both of my Benzes and am very pleased.
The H4's the best deal in an all-season H-rated tire on the market. Good luck! ------------------ Best regards, Michael '92 500E '88 300TE |

hello...
i am very close now in getting Toyo tires. the specific model is Toyo Proxes TS-1. the W rated new hi-perf. tire. for my 1995 C36 (which soon will be given away) 225/45/17 and 245/40/17 $200 each including mount, balance, and taxes. total of $800. go for the TS-1 instead of the H4... take care... not bad in my opinion. i think Toyo could match up with any other brand out there...the only thing is that the name isnt very popular. |

My experience with toyo has been excellent also. I've bought cheap ones all the way up to the best proxes for an old M5. Worked well and rode well too, a bit of noise though. But I've got to say that before I'd spend 800 bucks on a set of toyos I'd have to give the other majors (pilot, SO2, sp9000) a hard look. Good luck, allen.

Well, I have 4 matching Toyos' now. I'll let you all know more about how I like them as I get used to them. Right now I can say that I'm getting a quieter ride, faster steering response, more cornering power, and better handling. Thanks to everyone for the feedback and I'm glad that everything worked out OK. The whole deal ended up costing me about $300 since the shop bought the tire that they damaged. Thanks again,

As long as you stay on top of them rotation-wise, I know you'll get a good long life out of those tires. Good to hear you're pleased!

It's eerie how much improved the handling is with a good alignment, wheel balancing and new tires. My car is now much more agile than I thought a W126 could be. Not that I'm complaining, but I've looked at the speedometer and noticed that I was driving 10 mph faster than I'd thought along certain favorite stretches of road
Thanks for everyone's input and Merry Christmas to all, Robert W. Roe 1984 300SD 166.7K mi [This message has been edited by Robert W. Roe (edited 12-25-1999).] |
