what does it mean?
I've heard it a couple of times...
When people ask if their wheels rub. I keep hearing the response... 'Yes they do, but it is nothing a bat can't fix' What in the world does that mean!?!! and when they mean rub, a dumb explanation also :-D i have stock rims on my e190, but i have 75-r15 and i think 'rubbing' occurs when i go down slopes? is that right? |

rubbing can mean a few things.
If the wheel is rubbing, it could be the inside is scraping on the caliper or something there like a steering knuckle. If the tires are rubbing, it generally means the tire is contacting the body somewhere, like the inner fender lip, a shock mount, etc etc. Either way neither of them is good for the tire, or the car. So people who have lowered their cars, and put on wider wheels and tires, runt he risk of rubbing the tire, and if they chose the wheel offse wrong, coul runt he risk of rubbing the wheels on things in the hub area. My car is lowered, it has 8" wheels with an offset of 28 on a w124 chassis, with 225/45/17 rubber. I had to roll the rear fenders sot he tires did not rub on them when driving, and also I had to roll them so the tires would rub as little as possible when the rear suspension compresses. On the front I had to space the fenders out a bit to minimize the rubbing, and am yet to roll the fenders, but I will to get rid of the rubbing that happens under compression of the suspension int he front. You place the bat between the tire & fender edge, tilt the bathandle down slightly so the fat part of the bat is contacting the inner edge of the fender, then, while applying downward pressure on the handle, you roll the bat back & forth, forcing out the fenderlip.
Pretty crude. Same thing can be accomplished with a proper fender-rolling tool. Luke knows all about it.
