Currently, I have fitted Dunlop SP Sport W2, 225/60/15 on to a 93 320CE Benz. Although too large and wide, requesting advice on best size as for rims and tyres for allround, allyear sport performance...

With all non-500 W124's my recommendation for top-handling is 225/50/16 tire on a 16x7.5" rim. You can go 225/45/17 but the extra cost and stiffer sidewall really don't buy you anything performance wise unless you have done significant suspension work. The do look more impressive than the 16's but they ride worse, weigh more, and are a greater liability for pothole damage.

225/50/16 should fill the wheel-wells and realy wake up the handling of the vehicle. The 16x7.5" rim is quite helpful in wringing the best performance out of the tires fitted.

As for particular tire recommendations: Michelin Pilot MXX3 or Pilot Sport, Bridgestone S-02 Pole Position, BFG KD are your handling top guns. The Yokohama AVS Sport is a great handling budget choice. If you want a bit more treadlife or your car sees any snow you will want an all-season high performance tire. In that category there is pretty much the Michelin Pilot XGT V4/Z4 and everyone else. Skip the H4's as they are not up to par with the V/Z rated brethren. Michael just put a set of Pilot XGT Z4's on his 500E, you might want to ask his impressions.

Hope this helps...Lee

Michelin XGT-Z4's a great choice, althought I haven't run them in the really foul stuff. Also, look at the Toyo Proxes; they make a great tire at a nice price.

I just got the Toyo Proxes H4's; they have recently transformed my 1984 W126 300SD in 205/65R15H. They are quiet and handle well.
