Question Any info on Borbet B types?

I have been thinking for a while about gettingnew wheels for my E320.

I saw these (see link below) on TireRack.

http://www.tirerack.com/upgrade_garage/WheelSearch.jsp?&autoMake=Mercedes-Benz&autoModel=E320&autoYear=1998&autoModClar=

(Sorry, the link does not take you directly to the E320 with the Borbet wheels. The wheels that I was looking at, if you areinterested in looking, are #50 out of 95 matches).

Has anyone had any experience with Borbet wheels?

With this particular model (I'd love to see pics of them on a W210)?

Can you use the Benz centercap on the Borbet wheels?

Do we get a discount at TireRack?

Thanks for the info.

Can't help you with the " B "s, but I'm using " E "'s for my winter rims.
Borbets are pretty good but, after running them for 2 summers, the clearcoat started to deteriorate badly.
Hence they became my winter wheels.
The M-B centercaps will not fit Borbets ( or most any other aftermarket rims ).
No, we do not get any discount from The Rack, but lots of good, free advice from Luke.

Manny, thanks for the info. I may just keep my standard, Benz-issued wheels.

No need for winter tires in sunny So. Calif. Maybe mud tires, for when we have mud slides.

Borbet is Germany based company that does produce a very nice product ....

Personally, I'm not a big fan of the Type B but, I'm not driving your car.

If you like the appearance of that wheel, what I can say is that it is a good quality, well built wheel.

Luke, what about hte problem mentioned by Manny (see post above) with the clearcoat coming off?

What about the Benz center cap? Does it fit the Borbet wheel?

actually, I also like the eight-hole Benz look alike shown in your website. It is made in Korea and retails for about $100.00. Is that wheel any good?

I have an 8 hole wheel in my 300TE. It is a Benz wheel and it is polished, not clear coated. I really like the look of that wheel in the 300TE, not sure how it would look in the E320.

Have been a darn good wheel so far, but clear is starting to peel around one edge,,,, I may have hit a curb or something there.

Pete

I see you have the Type "T"'s, very nice wheel indeed.
On the subject of clearcoat, mine started to develop hairline cracks after the first summer & went downhill after that.
Amazingly enough, they have held up pretty good during this last ( harsh ) winter.

Peter, you do have a VERY nice Benz collection. I see a theme there...you must love that color choice.

You see, I like the 8 hole wheels in your E400. I have the same on my 300TE, in the polished aluminum style.

I wouldn't mind getting the same for the E320.

I actually bought those 8 holers from Tire Rack around 1997. They have a more positive offset that widens the stance of the car and just looks a lot better IMHO. I have the AMG's on the 400 this summer that I had on the wagon last year,,,,, geez,,, I get worn out just changing tires and wheels.
