Essence of the thread was profile.
Akong asked if there is a 225 or 245 50 available for his 18” rims. The problem is the 50. That is a “low profile” and 40’s are lower. This is the aspect ratio of the tire and it means that the tire height form the rim is 50% of the tread width. Therefore a 225/50 is 225 mm multiplied by 50%, which is 125 mm high. A 245/40 is 245 multiplied by 40% or 98 mm high. This is the amount of cushion you get. A 245/50 is 122.5 mm high giving more cushion but added to the 18” rim diameter it may not fit in the wheel wells. That is why a “low profile” tire is stiffer.
