Why not get a 18"?? Monoblock 18" was designed to fit W140. They actually look very nice on W140. 17" on W140 looks plan....

The W140 was always a very large, very comfortable car. The biggest gain with such a wheel/tire fittment would be looks. On a car who's strong suit is touring, I might be a bit more hesitant to go with such a low profile for ride/noise considerations. On a more performance oriented model I'm the first one to advocate putting in bigger/stickier wheels/tires. If it is just for looks and/or sharpening up the handling a bit then go for it. Though you might want to choose a tire that is known for its ride/noise characteristics. Dunlop's SP9000 comes to mind. (its also OEM on the SL 18" sport package)

Hope this helps...Lee

I'd say the replica AMG wheels most likely can't touch genuine AMG wheels. I used to have a set of ATP 8 hole replicas in 16" on my 300E before I stepped up to a set of AMG monoblock 17" with 215/45/17 Dunlop SP Sport 8000 (discontinued I believe) and the ride quality has barely changed, while the response is much, much better. In removing the 8 hole replicas and comparing them to the AMG's while off the car, the difference in manufacturing quality is evident; the AMG wheel was at least a few pounds lighter and when installed on the car seemed to be much truer.

I've driven a 400SE with 20" wheels and believe it or not, the ride quality wasn't as terrible as I expected; of course the massive power assist on the steering was kind of unnerving compared to my 300E. Brabus makes an awesome 19" wheel for the W140 S class, it's a 3 piece wheel, that would be my wheel of choice when I finally get my S500 coupe

Just my 2 cents, good luck...
