Talking Original tires for 1990 420 SEL???

Good Morning All- i have to replace the tires on my 90' 420 SEL and want to put the original type tires back on her. i don't have the manual and when I checked the on-line manual all it has is a blurb about tire pressure. Someone suggested Michelin H or V type? Thanks for your help guys.

Should be 205/65/15. Don't get the cheap ones either. I did that with my 1989 420SEL and I regret it. Your car requires a high speed rating and I think that has alot to do with the ride comfort. The guys at Tire Rack could probably explain it better. Give them a call, they are pretty good about helping out.

Hi,Siduri, I know you are not the original owner of your car, if you don't have all the original books and records on it, but you really ought to get, at the very least, an owners manual for it, and read it. They are very useful in determining how to keep up your car, the specs., the fuses it needs and how to take care of it and what works.

You can find a nice new or used leather case for it too on ebay. It stores nicely in the drivers or passenger's door pocket. You can get a period correct one new at your dealer, and a used one on ebay. Hopefully, your car still has the jack spare and tool kit intact.

As for the tires, this might be a good time to have a four wheel alignment on the car too, so you can start out with the correct toe in on the new tires, so they will wear correctly....

Thanks Jim- I am hunting around for an owners manual. The gentleman who works on my car is very through and all four tires will be replaced, balanced and aligned at the same time. I just finished having the front end done and the tires and brakes are the second cluster of repairs to be done.

What did you have to do with the front end? My 420 has got some clunking and knocking on the passenger side front. My son normally drives the car so I'm sure he's got the radio up too loud to hear it. Teenagers

I'm happy to see that you are being careful about the care of your 420SEL, I don't know the total mileage on your car, but if you check the buyers guide on www.mbcoupes.com there you'll find some recommendations for other mileage related service recommendations you might need on your car. I co-wrote that back in 1998, but think the suggestions contained therein are still good ones. Good luck with your "baby" The big sedans like yours are really good cars overall. They cost a fortune when they were new!

Tire/wheel options for W126's

What options are there for tires and wheels on this car if one wants to up grade to a larger and/or low profile tire?

To to tires.com

http://www.tires.com should have the information that you need.
Give them the information on the year , make and model and they will tell you the tires size for that car and optional tire sizes.
