Luke,

Just ordered a set of tires through the on-line store. Nice and painless, just the way I like it. The only thing that wasn't mentioned on-line was when the tires will ship.

Mike-
If you give Luke a call I'm sure he can give you the UPS tracking number.

Thanks Bill,

I'll probably do that now that the sun is up . Wasn't an option in the wee hours though.

Just continuing my part in supporting this site and it's sponsor's. Thanks Again (as always).

Luke,

Please pass on to Noah that I truely appreciated the follow up call RE: tire size. I can be a little hard to get a hold of sometimes, but he tracked me down and explained that since TireRack had no data for my old Benz, they wanted to confirm tire size. That speaks volumes.

Thank You.

PS: also learned they will probably ship tomorrow

About a year ago, I ordered a set of 16" AMG wheels (Monoblocks) and tires for the E320. Luke at Tirerack was very helpful and the wheels/tires arrived within a week of my ordering. Luke even called back after I had ordered to advise that the price of the wheels had decreased from the posted price due to the strength of the U.S. Dollar versus the German Mark. I've been very satisfied with the purchase, and the car (detailed in accordance with mercedesshop.com spec) gets rave reviews wherever I take it.

Arrrrrrgggghh

UPS came to deliver the tires today. Nice delivery time. But, since there was no one home all they left was a note. And won't try to deliver again until Monday, can't try to pick them up today either, since they're on a truck somewhere in So. Cal.

I had hoped to have them mounted tomorrow, but I guess that'll have to wait. Will be checking with the neighbor, see if he'll be home and willing to babysit the llantas for a couple hours come Monday.

It's all for the better since there is no worry about some low life swiping them. Jeez, I had gotten all pumped about riding 'round on new rubber, oh well.

The tires arrived today. They look good too. I should be getting them mounted and balanced tomorrow, at least that's the plan right now.

No pics as of yet, but here are my first impressions.

Had the tires mounts and balance today (the shop even hand torqued the lugs). These are the Avid Touring WW, they look nice even though I'm not a white wall fan. Tread depth seems pretty deep at .345", as measured under proper inflation and mounted on the car.

Low speed < 40. Very quiet, Now I hear lots of "new" car sounds that were masked by the old tires. Will be listening closely for the next few days to see what is normal and what is not. The steering wheel seems to be quite a bit more responsive too. For highway touring tires, they really seem to grab on to the road surface.

Moderate 40-90. Still very quiet, very smooth rolling. Very little road surface noise transmitted, and still very responsive to wheel input. I used to have an annoying vibration between 80 and 90, I could not isolate it by rotating tires it was always just there. With the new tires acceleration through 90 is smooth, steady 80 to 90 no more vibration!

High >90. Haven't been there yet.

Decel 50-0. Very smooth stop, no tire growl.

This was a very limited drive during the 40 miles it took me to travel 6 miles between the office and the house on my way home. My route covered in town traffic, interstate highway and two lane black top.
