Luke....need a rope ( so I can hang myself ).

Here is the scenerio:

New tires installed 3 months ago ( Yokohama AVS Db S2 ).
Alignment performed at the local M-B dealer 2 weeks later.
Rotated tires 2 weeks ago & had them re-balanced ( had some slight vibrations before ).
BOTH inside & outside shoulders of ALL 4 tires are showing a lot of cupping.
Shocks ( Bilstein Sport ) are 1 year old & all suspension components check out good.
Am I missing something here ?

What? I doubt you've driven too many miles in that time so it could be low air pressure or (most likely) alignment. Just because the dealer did it doesn't assure it was right!
I guess you only rotate front to back, side to side is out because of directional tires.
Cupping to me is a result of weak shocks, are you sure its not just even wear because of poor camber?
I have a set of dB S2 on my '87 300D and love them, they really hold the car in turns, wet or dry And no uneven wear for almost 8K miles.

I check my tirepressure every week.
Factory spec. is 28 psi front, 32 psi rear.
I run 30 psi front, 34 psi rear.
As I stated above, alignment was done by my trusted dealer & he installed the Camber bolt kit, since the car is lowered about 1", and has been for the last 3 years ( without ever showing weird tirewear, as could be attributed to negative camber ).
The cupping is noticeable more on the inside row of treadblocks, although there is also some cupping ( to a lesser extend ) on the outside row.
This is on all 4 tires.
Maybe Luke would know if there has been similar wearproblems with this particular tire?

that's rather interesting .... i have not heard of a cupping issue with generation 2 of the AVS DB ....

and everything you have already stated is what I would suggest you look into ... air pressure typically being the most common cause of cupping.

tire size and wheel size ???

Luke

Tiresize: 225/45/17
Rim Size: 17 x 8", ET 35.

P.S. My previous Michelin Pilot Sport PS 2, mounted on the same rims, same pressures, never exhibited this wear pattern.
