Quick wheel story. I didn't realize until a week after buying an '81 300 SD that one wheel was a 15" and all the others we're 16". I went to a local wheel shop and they found me one 16" wheel to match my other 3.

They mounted a tire and installed the wheel. As I drove away, I heard a clicking sound. I turned aound and went right back to the shop. I don't think I drove more than 100 yards total.

The shop removed the wheel to find that the lead weight on the inside of the wheel had been ground off from hitting the ball joint. In addition, the ball joint had worn a groove into the wheel, which matches the groove worn in the wheel on the other side of the car.

It turns out the wheels on my car are from a '93 E class.

Look at the post where the guys caliper bolt came loose and actually cut right through the wheel. Using the incorrect wheels can also cause a dangerous situation

I have found a set of 15 x 7 wheels with a 35mm offset. Any idea if these will work? Is there a chart anywhere that shows the wheels that will fit a W123 so I don't have to bother you guys everytime I find a set of wheels? Thanks again. -Bryan

I think someone said the standard for a 123 is anything with an offset up to 30. Of course there are exceptions but the best thing to try is mount one up front and see if it clears the tie rod.
