Hi All,
just looking to upgrade the 15" stock rims on my recently acquired 300CE. I'd like to stay w/ OE/AMG rims, but the monoblock x rims are ALL so chunky and heavy. Does anybody know what the lightest style of the 17" AMG/OE rims are? and how much exactly they weigh? TIA. |

Although they are not "factory", the lightest wheel available for your car is the BBS RC. It is a beautiful piece, both in performance and in finish. May not be the style you're looking for though. Just FYI.

An AMG 5 spoke "Sport" 17" X 8.5" wheel weighs 23 lbs; I'd guess a similar 7.5" wheel would be 1.0 - 1.5 lbs. less. Sorta chunky, but real strong.
I looked at/lifted an 18" X 9"(not positive on the width) AMG 2-piece wheel today; it was destined for a '97 S600 Coupe. It's the optional Y2K S500 wheel. I bet it didn't weigh an ounce over 14 lbs! However, they sell for $950 a pop...funny thing is, BBS was the actual manufacturer! Good luck...and if you want a light wheel, go BBS. ------------------ Best regards, Michael '92 500E '88 300TE [This message has been edited by Michael (edited 12-21-1999).] |

It would be a hard call but probably the lightest AMG would be the 5-spoke SLK/CLK 17"er. It is probably a bit lighter than the classic "blocks".
I completely agree with allenjdmb on the BBS RC. Very lightweight and (IMO) very attractive on a W124. You may want to take a peek at what it would look like on your car via TireRack's "Wheel-Rack" program. Click on their banner and look under wheels, you should be able to find Wheelrack from there. Even though they are not OE, the BBS wheels are of VERY high quality. Hope that helps...Lee |

wow. Thanks for all the quick replies. Funny thing, I have a set of 17x8" BBS RXs sitting in my apt right now. (5x114.3, bummer eh). They are by far NOT the lightest rims. What I really want to do is fit a set of rims like TE37s onto my 124, but alas, no Jap tuner rim company is going to offer 5x112...

In response to the BBS RC suggestion: I knew they were light (I knew they are costly) and now, after calling Tirerack, I know BBS no longer makes RC's in the MBZ bolt patterns =(
