Where to get them?

I have an '81 300 SD that the previous owner put 8"x16" rims on. The front wheels actually have grooves worn on the inside from the ball joints rubbing against them and on tight turns the tires rub the tie rods

I am thinking it will be a lot cheaper to put on wheel spacers rather than get four new rims and tires.

Pros and Cons? Where can I find them?

Thanx

sounds exceptionally questionable already, would have a front end guy be taking a look at things for sure.
ditch the wheels altogether if their "grooved"; the spacers are not your safest option anyways.
spacers move the wheels away from the hub increasing stress on the wheel bolts which could fail under a high stress environment..
ie. cornering on the highway, shearing of the wheel itself at speed. fun.
you can pick up wheels cheap enough off ebay, and buying good tires will significantly improve your ride.
sorry to hear that bs, good luck.

Maybe Shims?

I've been doing some more research and maybe "Spacer" is not the right term for what I may want to try.

It seems the spacers are all about 1"-1.5". I only need the front wheels to be shimmed out a fraction of an inch.

I agree that the proper wheels with new tires would be ideal, but this car was suppossed to save me money by keeping miles off of my F-350.

So, where to find shims?

a local reputable wheel shop would be your easiest bet, sure there's plenty around vero beach.
have two sets of wheels that would fit my rigs if they were "shimmed", but from a safety standpoint, refuse to head that route.
there must be boatloads of wheels down in sunny florida..

Thanks, guys'
Actually there's not much of any thing down here in Zero Beach. I have found some on E-Bay, but I'm doing more research to decide if this is the route I want to go.

And this car was suppossed to save me money

That is incredily inaccurate. My wifes VW Jetta cost alot more to maintain and broke more frequently. Not to mention got 1/2 the fuel economy.

i bought very nice spacers about 1/8" or 3/16" thick from h and r.
you need bolts that are correspondingly longer though.
