7x15 ET 37 not fitting on 300CE front
Was it just late and I was tired or do the 8 hole wheels I picked up today (2024011602) really not fit my 92 300 CE? The wheels that came off the car were 6.5x15 ET 48.
I'll try again tomorrow, but it seemed like the wheel just hit the caliper before it laid all the way on the hub. Like a 5 mm spacer is needed. Pls advise |

the wheels are from a different body style yes?
so they might not work. did you actually bolt them up and try it out? if not you probably cannot tell what is happeneing. tom w

Yes I actually tried putting them on the car. The rear ones fit, but the front ones were hitting the calipers. They almost cleared, it's probably just 5 mm or so off.
Like I said, it was late... maybe I was missing something. I'll try it again today. I just thougth I'd post to see if for some reason a wheel with those specs isn't supposed to fit. *****UPDATE****** tried again and no worky... CRAP Noticed tire rack sells that wheel and for my car they have a +40 offset when my car is selected. Looks like I need a 3mm wheel spacer... Last edited by flyt300; 10-09-2006 at 06:15 PM. |

The proper offset is ET44 for the 8-hole alloys.

did the spacers fix the problem? were your bolts the proper length?

This has nothing to do with offset, it is all about brake clearance. Different wheels (with same offset) offer different brake clearances - something that is not mentioned by wheels makers. Using spacers will solve your problem clearing the brakes but it will also decrease the offset and push the wheels out; depending on how far you need to push the wheels out to clear the brakes you now have to worry about tire rubbing the fender. Hopes it all work out for you.

I also purchased the same 15 x7, 8 hole wheels ET37. I was lucky, because they fit fine on my 87 300e, but as noted they do not clear the calipers on the 91 300e I am restoring. I don't know in what model year mb changed to larger front calipers.

please let us know what you did
I am having the same problem. I would like to know what you came up with. I have an e320 and , like you tried to fit a set of c230 wheels. that was after mounting a set of new tires...darn

if a five mm spacer will make it clear i would bolt one on there in a heartbeat, but you need to be sure your bolts are threading all the way through the hub threads.
you may need longer bolts. tom w

spacing
If anyone is curious, I mounted the c230 wheel on an 95 e320 (larger calipers) with spacers just to check the difference - 5mm spacers will not do, the calipers do not clear - I had ~7.5mm spacing and they fit - but I think the only sizes sold are 5mm, then 10mm (and larger). No spacers are needed in the rear, they bolt up. 202 401 16 02 is the part number to the wheel I was using.
I should mention, if anybody has a set of wheels to fit my car I would be interested, accordingly if anyone is looking for these wheels I mistakenly purchased let me know. thanks |
