Hi guys,
I am thinking about lowering my 300E, will my fenders rub when I hit a bump with a heavy load? I am using a set of 16" CLK wheels, I think they stick out a bit more compared with the factory wheels.

Thanks

I have a 1988 300E that was delivered with 16" wheels/tires. They are about 8 inches wide, I think. The car is dropped and frequently bumps the stops, so it is really too low. The Lorinser tire/rims did bump the fenders sometimes. I upgraded to the Sport 16" wheels from a 280C, they fit perfectly and no rubbing. They came with Conti Sport Tourings which are not impressive. Didn't last too long and now howl as they are almost worn out at about 20,000 miles. The 16" C wheels look good and make the car look newer, but the Lorinser wheels are much more elegant looking. Just IMHO.

I have pictures of each if you are interested.

If the wheels are 16x8 then you're in danger of some rubbing if you lower. 16x7 and 16x7.5 are perfect in my humble opinion however people have gotten away with wider wheels by upgrading the sway bars to limit dips on hard corners and thoroughly upgrading the shocks and springs.

FWIW the AMG springs I put on my '89 300E lowered it about 1.5". HTH
