Talking A tale of tires...

About 2 years and one month ago I bought a set of Goodyear Assurance TripleTred tires to replace my old (and ailing/cruddy) "Futura Plus" tires that came on my car. They vibrated bad, had horrifying traction, and were a hazard in the winter. The assurance made an amazing difference, and lasted about 27k till they went downhill. Within the last 3-4k, they developed a vibration issue at above 70ish, had them rotated and balanced, problem just moved around, and vibrated just as bad. So I had them inspected by Discount Tire here in GR, they said two of them were in pretty bad shape and said the others were "ok". I got the pro-rated warranty applied to my current set, which are warranted to go 80,000 miles, and my set of brand new (all four) michelin destiny tires that will be installed tomorrow morning will only cost me about $127!!!!!!! (Normally would be nearly $320!!) Also, Michelin is having a rebate right now where you get $50 back for buying four tires, so if I can claim that too, I could be getting 4 brand new michelin destiny tires for $76. Keep in mind these normally cost $77 EACH. My dad's car has them, and after 30k on them, they don't even look used, no tread wear at all, plus it rides smooooth up to 112mph(can't get it any faster. ) I can't wait to get there tomorrow!! Even if I can't collect the rebate too (should be able to, since it was warranty that got me the discount) It'd only be $127 for the tires.

How's that for a deal?? I am one happy college student. Plus, I get to face winter with a brand new set of shoes on the car!

Discount Tire Co. Sells them, they're an excellent tire according to the hundreds of reviews on their website. www.discounttire.com

Its a counterpart to the Michelin "X" tires if that helps.

My dad has had them for over 2 years/30k on his SD, and they are doing great so far.

OK, I checked out the Discount Tire site and there is no Michelin Destiny tire listed under the Michelin brand.

I think you're getting hosed here. Whatever tire you've got there is not a traditional Michelin tire.

Get them to put some proper Hydroedge tires on it. You won't be disappointed.

Harmonys do exist.
http://www.michelinman.com/overview/destiny/1724.html

They're a tire thats manufactured for Tire Shops, kind of like the Yokohama YK420 is made exclusively for Diso**** tire, but its the same thing as the Avid H4/V4. Treadwear rating of 740 makes them ultra hard, which is great for treadwear, but not so much for handling.

I tried both the Destiny and Harmony tires on various W126s, and I even had the Harmony's mounted on the SDL, and they rode nice but handling was pathetic.

I finally went back to the old reliable Kumho KH11s, which stick like crazy. They're about a third of the price of a MXV4 S8. May not last as long, but I expect to get around 40K out of them, at which point, I'll suffer from Dry rot vs treadwear. I usedto be a big believer in the X series tires. I had X Ones on a crown vic. Had almost 90K on them! Take a look at the Kumho KH11, You gotta try these things out!

They really do exist...my dad's '83 is sitting on 4 of them right this moment.

Interesting. They look a lot like the old Michelin X radials.

Should do fine for you. The are offered in both S and T speed ratings, depending on their size. The T would be preferable. Some would argue that nothing short of H is acceptable, however, I'm not one of them.

Oh yeah I know that tire, my mom had them on her old car. They wear like iron, but the traction is crap. Like everthing there are trade off's.

The old Michelin X tires that I owned did the same thing. Got 100K out of them, but the traction was not all that great. On an oldsmobile, they did fine, however.

I'll just be more careful.... My dad hasn't had any issues with them, but from riding with him in a variety of conditions, I will agree that their traction is probably not as good as the assurance ones, at least in the rain, in the snow his seemed to do a little better than mine. We'll see. I'd rather have them wear like iron than wear out every 30k.

Since I 'get my roll on' a lot, I like having the better handling of the W Rated Tires.
