I have a 1991 124 that makes a "clink clink" sound when I hit any small bumps in the road. I noticed this last year, but I attributed this to the dust shields in the wheels. The dust shields are gone, but the car makes a very slight clinking nois when I hit any imperfections in the car. It is a high pitched tinny sound. The car does not exhibit any problems and the lugs are torgued properly, brakes pads are good, rotors are good and MBZ, really I can't find anything wrong, but I am curious as to what the noise is.
Any suggestions or is this just the "floating" caliper floating?

Did you check the wheel bearing? They make a "clink clink" sound

Yes, there is not freeplay or noise while driving.

Just a wild guess.... maybe you have steel lugs on alloy wheels or vise versa.... or maybe a nest of clink bugs.

Smiles.

How about your sway bar links. Mine clink and they need replacing.

I had an '87 W124 and now a '91 124 Wagon that both do this. It seem like something that is inherent to these cars. I've resorted to ignoring this noise now. I've had them checked out extensively and everything is the right part in its place. The last fix was some silicone spray on the bushings that seemed to have quieted the noise for a week or so. So I'd venture to guess it's bushing related. Check out the other post "W124 Wagons unite" posted this week, it sounds like the same problem we are having. I'd be interested to know how you finally fix it.
