Inside tire wear, both tires
Got an 84 300D with unknown mileage. Been reading about replacing upper control arms, etc. Which is most likely to cause the inner tire wear?? Upper or lower or both??? To me car is too loose in sterring, but this is the only Mercedes I've driven. Not sure how tight the steering should be..Drives fine...But noticed today that tires were wearing on inside...

Steering should be pretty tight. You probably need new tie rods. I am going through the inside tire wear on both sides too. I installed new tie rods and upper control arms this weekend but now the alignment is horribly off, the steering will not return to center and there is humungous bump-steer even on the smallest bumps. Will try for an alignment tomorrow.
I'd say the upper control arms take care of most of the negative camber. They are cheap too, cost me 80 bucks for both arms.

Could be a simple matter of too much toe-out....
If you can't find any obvious play, have the tracking checked, it'll be the cheapest fix, so that's the one to start with.......
