what rating for 300D tires

what rating would be sufficient as a temporary tire for my 300D.. i have a front end wear problem and i need a temp tire in place of the one that is about to shred.

tire rack says an S rated tire will fit.. i barely touch speeds about 75 anyways..

walmart tried to sell me an H rated tire for my diesel speed wagon(sarcasm) while they had S tires for my car... i guess i should not have mentioned mercedes... jerks

as a temp i would probably just buy whatever is cheapest.

with your known problem you might try to find a good used tire as a temp. one thought is to use whatever you buy as a spare later. if taking that tack, i always like having a pretty good spare in exactly matching spec to my other tires. this way if i have a flat on a trip i can go on with no worries. also in the event i run over someones errant muffler i will have a tire ready to put on that is an exact match. you can also rotate them in if you are lucky and dont have any tires meet an early demise.

good luck, my friend.

ill go back to wally world and just buy the 47$ one they had and not mention my car... and have it mounted at the truck stop

i dont want to rotate my rears to the front ... better to replace 2 fronts than all 4...

my left front has also started to wear... but not as bad as the spare...stupid alignment

i had them take the 47$ one out for me... i was like.. yea your right thats crap... i wouldnt even put that tire on my wheelbarrow.... tirerack.com has some kumhos for 38$ that look better than this thing... plus it was an A/W rating.. and i could almost push the sidewalls together..

so i bought a tire for 67$ goodyear venturi touring.. no more pulling to the right... now it pulls a lil to the left(that side is wearing)..

ill get two new front tires as soon as this is all sorted out..

total cost so far from my front end damage

190$

then the costs of the front end pieces and an alignment plus new front tires..

Costco wanted to sell me H rated tires but i didn't bother since I knew there was something iffy in the front end. I pulled out the owner's manual and it looks like the recommended tire is an S rated. They do feel marshmellowy though, once I get everything right I'll get H tires.

perhaps the H rating ones have stiffer sidewalls... and the S have more of a squishy one...

Yes, exactly. I think these cars do well with H rated tires because they need stiffer sidewalls for when the body rolls over on the tire. Especially in the rear with those vestigial coat hanger sway bars. Figure MB used those and an exhaust pipe of a sway bar up front so people don't spin out easily.

Any tire store will always try to sell you an H-rated tire for the 300D, because it is nearly twice as expensive and lasts about half as long.

Who wins on that one?

But it is true, the H-rated tire would perform better on the car. It would perform better on a Geo Metro too. Do you need it? Up to you.
