The finish on one of my wheels was slightly scratched when a weight flew off. Discount tire had use the wrong weights.
The tire shop promptly agreed to resolve the issue. They said they are getting me a refinished wheel to do the exchange. In the alternative, they would agree to have a local shop refinish my existing wheels but that would take more time (instead of a simple swap, I would have to wait about two days without the car). Should I feel strongly one way or the other? How can I easily make sure that the refinished wheel is OE and not a replica? Any way I could tell whether the wheel just had finish issues rather than curb damage? Help, please. I don't want to be too unreasonable. |

I would be suspcious of refinished wheel. Don't know the history, don't know what might happen. For all you know, it may have been in worst shape that your current.
Take the alternative, at least you knew the extent of the damage. Its worth the wait. Meanwhile, why not get them to loan you the refinished wheel until yours is done.

I had some rims refinished in the past (2 different refinish shops and two different type of rims) and I am sure that I will never run refinished rims again.
It is no problem when the rim is repainted only (although the paint normally does not last as long as the original paint), but I definitely don't like bounced rims that are refinished. Get them to repaint your own rim, so you know what you get and get them to lend you a temporary wheel... greetingz,

Thank you. That's exactly what they agreed to do.
I got loaner wheels until my wheels came back in about four days. Hope they look ok. |

They ought to be ok.
Unless you find your high speed rides bouncier than ever and its harder to get them balanced. Thats when you now know its not ok.
